In 2014 there have been 9 cat3+ hurricanes in the Eastern Pacific with 2 causing
1.3 billion $ damage in the the USA Southwest... There have been 22 storms in all
breaking the previous record of 16 in 1992...

Then, Typhoon Nuri (a cat5 storm stronger than hurricane Sandy) formed in the
Northern Pacific - rolled across the Aleutian Islands and into the Arctic
causing 2 blow-outs in the Polar Vortex... The 1st arctic vortex anomaly sent
winter in November across the USA along the Canadian border as far as Michigan...
The 2nd arctic anomaly angled from the USA Northwest thru the Midwest and out
the Ohio Valley... When the 2nd arctic Wx went thru South/Central Iowa Pat Main
saw it as a fast moving cold front - this is his report:

>>This is what happens to XL landing gear when you get caught in a cold front
with 60 plus MPH wind while trying to land. Full throttle indicating 60 mph
and going backwards while being tossed around violently. All controls got a real
workout. VERY thankful this was the only damage. She came home bent, but still
 in one piece.

Dang! I'm impressed if that's all the damage you had.
