Crank Case Wear
« on: December 23, 2014, 08:43:13 AM »
First set back.

I picked up and engine (H-series) with no cracks in the case for $40. I just brought it back from a high pressure wash and found what looks like excessive pitting around the oil screen. By excessive I mean the hole on the inside has lost its form. There is a lot of missing material.

I recently picked up a book on VW engines and now think I might have made a bad purchase for this project regardless of the condition of the case. I found a item on line were a guy recommended 1970 model or later. Any pearls of wisdom before I squander the next $40?
