Back years ago my brothers and myself helped Dad build a Protech Prostar PT2. The first iteration had a Subaru 2200 with a belt reduction and Airflow Performance fuel injection. Engine was no good. Had problems, quit in the air several times. Took the engine off and junked it. The plane sat several years neglected so about a year ago we started the restoration. Slappy took all the covering off and rebuilt the fuselage where repairs were needed and built a motor mount for the newly acquired O-290.
We are just starting the covering process. Work happens every Thursday evening.

good we'll be wanting reports. how does that thing fly? ive read reports that it wasnt the best handler but that was on the net so auto suspect...
are yall using 2.7 or 1.6 oz fabric on it? back in the 80s i covered an acrosport with the then Stits HS90X fabric that was a very light I think 1.6 oz fabric with the same rating as 2.7. It worked really nice unlike the relatively stiff and thick 2.7. and of course the big weight diff. It's been discontinued far as I can tell. Does anybody know of a similar polyester fabric available now?

It kinna flies like a truck. Gotta stay on the rudder. Lots of adverse yaw. Supposed to be a short field performer but was heavy with the Subie. Hope we lighten it up a little. Yeh we puttin the heavy fabric on it. Wish we had something lighter.

Good photo's - keep the Thursday nite feature shots coming... The Protech structure looks robust - is it a little heavy?... Today we have 4 season's all at once in San Diego - tonite it is -1 up in Cedar City, Utah - any time I've ever been there it has been over 90 on the way to Oshkosh...

The console supports some control belcranks and flap controls. They are very complex. Has dropped alerons when flaps are down. Also has fuel system and wiring. Made from alum and is really light.
