Scat Split Port Heads
« on: January 11, 2015, 03:36:29 PM »
Hello:

I saw these heads from scat: http://scatvw.com/master/cyl_heads/split_port.shtml

Is there a downside. Seems like a plus to begin with in the fact that you don't need to cut or weld. Then the alleged improvements to combustion/flow all that stuff.

Anyone have opinion or experience.

Thanks,

John

The ONLY drawback I can imagine is they are a bit heavier than the cut/welded standard VW heads....
AND they are a bit more expensive.....
Two (or more) 1/2 VW clone manufacturers used Scat heads exclusively...

I wouldn't throw them out if I had a pair....
But, if you do, I will send you my address............................

Yes, they are pricey. Wonder if they really do offer a performance advantage.

I am also trying to get as much off the shelf as I can as far as the motor goes. I have enough to learn without making up heads. I've already gone back on my idea of a cut case. It seems like the full case is better AND easier. I like the way the cut case looks though, but we'll see.

I also saw something that looks good. A Vertex magneto that runs like the distributor. Pricey too, but am I seeing that right.

I suppose the way to do the heads is to split a kit as it looks like they come in 4's. Unless of course SCAT sells them in pairs.
