fuel pump and Mikuni carbs
« on: August 17, 2015, 10:08:01 AM »
I have been flying LE #70 for little over a year. Had quite a lot of trouble adjusting carbs.Previous owner thought he had fiberglass residue coming from tank due to alcohol. After many, many carb adjustments------found out you don't need a fuel pump. Disconnected it and problem solved. Mikuni carbs need very little fuel pressure. With wing tank; gravity provides plenty of pressure.

There are various sizes of float valves - one is sized for a fuel pump the other for gravity feed... The size spread is about 1.5mm to 3.0mm... Check the parts catalog for your carb... The float valves will further misbehave if the the carb isn't braced properly from vibration - note the dual carb bracing that Les Homan has evolved elsewhere on this forum...
